This was working fine until one day about 30 minutes into the hour we heard what sounded like an explosive decompression coming from his direction. This was followed by a quite vile aroma. I immediately took him out of the crate, put him with our other dogs and cleaned it up. When I went to get him he was having a grand time playing with the dogs and eating their leftovers. The next day about 10 minutes into his crating I once again heard a rumble from his crate followed by the offensive olfactory onslaught. Once again, out of the crate and with the other dogs while I cleaned up. Now I have cleaned up my share of canid crap but this stuff by volume, consistently and odor is in a league of its own. Next day same thing only this time perhaps after only two or three minutes. It was at this point I figured I would get smart. The next day before he was crated I made sure he was outside for quite awhile. Upon checking, he did indeed empty his bowels. Feeling reassured, I put him in his crate. I watched him through a small peep hole. Sure enough within a minute he assumed the position. His only problem was his bowels were bare. All he could manage was a golf ball sized nugget. Man over beast. He had other plans. He put his size 14 paw in the nugget and proceeded to finger paint his crate pan. This is when the thought kicked in that perhaps he had learned that crapping in his crate got him playing with the other dogs. This time while I cleaned up his “modern art” I kept him by my side and put him back in the crate immediately. The next day same thing. Following day he went 20 minutes. Next day no poop. Next day poop after 40 minutes. Then a few days in the clear. We are still waiting for the complete extinction, with an emphasis on stink, of this behavior but it seems that we had “trained” him to crap in his crate. If anyone would like help in teaching this behavior I am available for virtual consults. 📸 @anabeldflux」7月27日 8時57分 - jabcecc
