Step inside our New Bond Street galleries this weekend and come face to face with portraits by some of history’s greatest artists. From Rembrandt’s 1632 petite self-portrait, and one of the last left in private hands, to Kehinde Wiley’s big, bold and stunningly self-assured portrait from 2013, which tears up the hierarchies and conventions of classical portraiture by reframing art historical tropes of subject matter, power, and recognition in the context of race.

Sotheby’s #RembrandtToRichter exhibition holds up a mirror to everything in between, featuring Frans Hals rediscovered virtuous portrait of an unknown gentleman, Picasso’s intimate portrayal of his secret lover Marie-Thérèse Walter and Jenny Saville’s ‘Stare III’ – an anonymous portrait that excavates a host of art historical references: can you see the similarities between this subject’s nose and that of Rembrandt’s? 👃

We’re open daily from 10am-3pm before these mesmeric portraits hit the rostrum on July 28.
