I was 30 and recently separated from my English husband after only two years of marriage and an extravagant London wedding (my poor dad) 🙈. It was the death of one chapter of my life yet the beginning of something else extraordinary to last the next seven years in London. This wasn’t a planned shoot - the Vogue news editor came in and impromptu asked me to sit for the photo on a piece of furniture for sale. Back then as well as fashion we sold so much furniture! Antique dressing tables from Paris, Italian chandeliers and London made love-seats. My entrepreneurial career started with retail before designing and it will always have my heart. It’s sad to see so many iconic stores closing down around the world and that the human desire to touch, feel and browse in beautiful stores has been superseded by the fast convenience of online. Maybe we’ll find our slow again one day and come back to the boutiques and high streets after Covid or take the time to read a magazine rather than binge on news bites online.. let’s hope so as it would be a shame for all these little luxuries to disappear.
