A Texas town just removed 1,280 feet of fencing separating historically segregated cemeteries. The 60-year-old chain link fence at Cedars Memorial Gardens in Mineola, Texas, was the separation between burial areas for Blacks and Whites. Over the past 20 years, the issue of the fence had come up off and on, said Mineola city manager Mercy Rushing. Citizens asked the cemetery associations to remove the fence, and the public works department finally did last week.
