An icon of 20th-century architecture, Le Brasilia was built by former Le Corbusier student Fernand Boukobza in the heart of the St Giniez neighbourhood in Marseille. Conceived of as a residential structure inspired by a trip to the Brasilian capital, the building features an arcing shape that gives the roughest béton brut the illusion of being nearly weightless. The structure hovers on its expressive stilts, with its iconic double winding spiral staircase winding up one side of the building overlooking the Mediterranean cityscape.⁣⁣
