Photo by @carltonward This is a favorite camera trap site, deep in South Florida’s Fakahatchee Stand, that I’ve been visiting for three years for our @pathofthepanther project with @insidenatgeo. My goal is to document a panther crossing the water. I’ve often seen the eyes of a big alligator in the adjacent pond, and it’s occasionally shown itself on the photo and video camera traps. This time the gator stopped in front of the camera in beautiful twilight and stayed still long enough to show off all its details—a gift from the swamp and a reminder that protecting the path of the panther supports habitat for other species. Thanks to all of our brave field team that services this camera, knowing this big gator is lurking. Please follow @carltonward and @pathofthepanther for more conservation stories from wild Florida. @fl_wildcorridor @Ilcp_photographers. #swamp #everglades #florida #floridawild #keepflwild
