However, instead of being a new planet, the Tepees area actually reveals some of the oldest rock layers in the park. The colorful sandstone was formed over 225 million years ago as sediment was deposited and compacted across an ancient floodplain. Buried, uplifted and then exposed, the layered rocks tell a vast story of life and time on Earth. And they look really cool, too.
