When I was 16 I had saved up enough money to buy my first plane ticket out to LA and I literally never looked back, until I wrote this song... After a few of my first writing sessions in LA I realized I had to stop introducing myself as the girl from Wisconsin because somehow that implied that luck alone got me to where I am and simultaneously discredited all of my hard work and determination. I resented the narrative of ‘the lucky girl from the Midwest’ who uploaded a video and somehow it did well. (Queue ‘Lucky’ by Britney Spears) But the truth is there was a lot of luck involved. I’m lucky I grew up in place like Wisconsin with so much nature and life around me, I’m lucky I had 2 amazing parents who always encouraged me to be creative, and I’m lucky that I’ve always known I wanted to do music. But I also said yes to the invitation for adventures that came my way. Now I can look back and be proud I made it here but also proud of all the ways growing up in Wisconsin shaped me.💕」7月16日 0時03分
