Upon being asked for his license and registration, Castile informed the officers that he was in possession of a firearm (which he was licensed to carry). In a video that was recorded by Castile’s partner, the police officer was heard accusing Castile of trying to pull out his firearm, with Castile repeatedly reassuring him that he was not. Without a second thought, the officer shot seven rounds at Castile at close range. While evidence weighed heavily against officer Jeronimo Yanez, the predominantly white jury acquitted him of all charges.
