It’s not like I wasn’t aware of so much of this, already, it’s just to prove the point and pose the question of “what are we really celebrating?”. So many of us need to free our minds from our own oppressive state. With what limited amount I had previously, combined with the multitude of what I have currently learned, I will not celebrate today. Instead, I will pause. I will hold space to continue to learn and reflect upon the real history of this country and work to incorporate this knowledge into every fiber of my being. Because I will not stand for hate. I will not stand for oppression. I will not, blindly, go into the abyss supporting continued sexism and racism and every single needless form of oppression. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We need change.
