Being non-binary gives me freedom in a lot of ways, and flexibility. I always felt like a chameleon in my life. It’s helpful to have this identity. I know for some people, it’s stressful, but being able to say I’m like genderqueer, gender fluid, non-binary, makes me feel like I have a place. I had a letter that I’d written myself. It was a capsule I did in third grade, and I opened it in twelfth grade. And it said, “remember not to let anyone tell you who you are, be confident, love yourself”. Like you can be whoever you want to be. And I remember, at 18 I had kind of lost that ability to be confident, but it sort of restarted that fire.
