Transformation (change?) is tricky when its frequent promise of “freedom” is infinitely subjective, too easily signified by “mundane gestures.” Blanket statements comfort and reduce. Celebration delights, vitally; celebration is not arrival. “History” recedes as a word to contextualize Wojnarowicz’s life, work, and death; “history” is too abstract, too far away.
