It was filmed and put into a video on YouTube called “The Game” (which is now deleted). It was ignorant, dumb, and uneducated of me to say that word. I should have known better. I am deeply sorry to those who were hurt by my use of that word, friends I let down, and anyone that I offended, especially in the black community. I am 100% against racism, hatred, and bigotry. I am accountable for my past actions. I messed up and feel ill inside for it. ——————————————————- After a lot of self-reflection from using this word, I want to use this message as an example. Racism exists everywhere, even in the climbing community. Using this kind of language creates a negative environment for allowing black people to feel safe and accepted. It is belittling and disrespectful. My goal is to challenge everyone to think about what they are saying and how they treat others. What are you doing with your language and actions to create a positive and safe environment? Going forward, I will hold people accountable for derogatory language and actions. I want to create that safe environment for black people to come in, feel accepted, and be able to session and grow as a climber.
