Elijah McClain loved playing his violin to kittens in shelters during his lunch break. He was a quirky introvert who loved music, loved to dance and he was walking home after buying ice tea for his brother. I am SICK to my stomach. This killing happened last August. Please stop killing unarmed black men, women and children. For the love of god. Again, I do believe there are GOOD/GREAT cops out there, I do think our communities need them. I do know it’s not an easy job. My mentor is a sheriff, my closest friends wear a badge. But there has to be a better way to address bias, better training in these kind of situations, dispatching a force to help defuse a situation, a third party community board to oversee complaints of misconduct. It’s evident that there is room for improvement to help save lives like Elijah’s. And to our officers who serve and protect, thank you for risking your lives everyday for our communities. You have one of the toughest jobs, but don’t you see there are flaws in our system?
