At first glance, Magritte's painting 'L'Arc de Triomphe' looks more like a tree than a monument. But there are visual similarities — the tall tree forms an arch against a rectangular block of leaves, inviting a visitor to approach and pass beneath it, just like a triumphal arch.⠀
