And in those months since my world view has expanded even further, and now have deeper empathy for this truth: People of color have faced housing discrimination for generations and it needs to come to an end. ⁣ ⁣ My aim for this little project is modest: Getting 1+ persons into a home they love when they never thought they could. When you own your home you enrich your community and that connects you to a sense of place. That hardly touches on half of the benefits, but it also creates generational wealth and a gift to pass on. I don’t want to gloss over this: this isn’t without effort and passion but there also will be great joy! ⁣ ⁣ I initially hoped to sell these plans (hello everyone that sells presets?!) because it turns out to be an incredible amount of work to detail house plans and the process BUT I’ve decided I want it to be a gift. ⁣ ⁣ The good news about this home is it can be feasible on paper for a family who already spends 30% of their income on housing @ $30,000/year. This home will come in under $700/month mortgage (including found land at $50k).⁣ ⁣ Home details: $100k built on site @ 1250sq ft, 2 BR, 2 BA, 12ft ceilings, wonderful 8’ windows, and R26 wall insulation. That includes a home with a foundation, roofing, siding, windows, doors, interior walls, rough plumbing, rough electric, and HVAC. The price above for myself in Montana does included well & septic, so it would also cover sewer and a city water connection. ⁣ ⁣ It does require DIY work over time and creatively gathering finishing materials. This isn’t instant gratification project but it will be yours!
