This week’s edition of #HeroresOfBrooklyn features Libby Mattern, founder of non-profit Course of Trade, that provides free sewing instruction and job placement assistance in the garment industry. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mattern and her team, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, have supported a group of manufacturers across Brooklyn that pivoted from their regular production to create personal protective gear for healthcare workers in New York City. Since April, Course of Trade and their network of factories have brought together 300 new employees to produce approximately 65,000 patient hospital isolation gowns per week and will distribute a total of 520,800 gowns by the end of June. #BrooklynStrong #NBATogether
