ガス・ケンワージーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ガス・ケンワージーInstagram)「I think this is one of the most powerful images in the history of sport. US Olympians Tommie Smith (Gold) and John Carlos (Bronze) raise gloved fists on the podium at the '68 Games to stand up to the racial injustice that Black people were (and still are) facing in the US and around the world. They took off their shoes and stood in socks to bring attention to the plight of Black poverty back home, wore beads around their neck to protest lynchings and, along with Peter Norman the Australian who won silver, wore patches of the Olympic Project for Human Rights - a group that Smith and Carlos helped organize as a way to reflect their Black pride and social conciousness. Norman was essentially cancelled by the Australian Olympic Committee for standing in solidarity with Smith and Carlos. Despite qualifying for multiple subsequent Olympic Games as the #1 Australian in the world the country instead chose not to send a sprinter at all and refused to recognize his accomplishments until 2012, six years after his death. Smith and Carlos were booed off the podium, kicked out of the Games, suspended from Team USA and went home to death threats. 48 years later when Colin Kaepernick peacefully knelt to protest racial injustice and police brutality in the US he was blackballed from the NFL. White people, now it is all of our chance to be a Norman and to stand in solidarity with Smith, Carlos, Kaepernick and the entire disenfranchised Black community. If you can march, march! (If you're in LA join me on Sunday - see slide 3). If you can donate, donate! (See slides 4 & 5 for good suggestions on where to give your money - thanks @stephseemsok for the list). If you can't do either of those things then educate yourself! I suggest starting by watching the Racial Wealth Gap episode of "Explained" on @Netflix, it takes 15 minutes and it's incredibly eye-opening. Have difficult discussions with family members who may not understand the Black Lives Matter movement. Sign petitions, make calls and write e-mails to demand justice and help create change! Do anything but don't do nothing. All lives will matter when Black lives matter. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿」6月12日 6時30分 - guskenworthy
