Art is often an unintended representation of time; an expression of joy, pain, torment, happiness, conflict, resolution and also the ordinary, everyday parts of life which then live on to teach us about experiences far removed from our own . By observing the outpouring of someone else’s soul we can sense history and injustices in their purest and most authentic form. If a piece of art, or even a genre of art, is not to your personal taste it is still extremely important to LOOK at it, appreciate it and acknowledge what it is and how it makes you feel, especially if that feeling is an uncomfortable one. Ask yourself why and don’t shy away from it. LEARN what it’s about or what it represents; ‘liking’ it is secondary. There are plenty of emotive photographs here on Instagram at the moment which ‘sum things up’, but I would urge you to explore and find the images which are not as easy and palatable for you because that is actually what sums things up...
