I was obsessed with the music and vision of @gracejonesofficial and also with her creative and romantic partnership with @jeanpaulgoudeofficial. I loved the way they defied expectations: male / female and Black Jamaican / White Parisian. This amazing track which was only released as a single had this extraordinary video where Grace shouts ‘You hate me for living my life, You kill me for living my life, As fast as I can, as Black as I am’. And the video shows a desperate and beautiful grace being mimicked by cartoonish black-faced dancers. I thought then, as I do now, it was the most amazing, defiant rage against racism and racial profiling.
