This is a post for the white and nonblack people that follow me and have been moved to post something on their feed today in solidarity. Cast your mind back to the murders of 9 people in Charleston in 2015. Or London during the riots caused by the murder of Mark Duggan by the police in 2011. Where was this energy then? How long will it be before you let it dissipate? The idea that you could take a day off and then “get back to business as normal” seems crazy to me. Are there nonblack people really just waiting 24 hours before resuming their project promotion, sourdough photos and sunsets?
There is no business as normal, there is only unrelenting state violence, and antiblackness, both globally and here in the UK. The same UK which has today suppressed its own report into Covid deaths in minority communities in case the truth contained 'causes racial tensions'. I remember the friends who seemed so untouched by other people’s pain they tweeted & posted through it in years prior. Whatever has shamed you into stopping now, use that. Tap into that pain, or discomfort, or empathy. Don’t ever let it slip away because the callousness of thinking it was someone else’s problem is how we got here in the first place.

The remaining images are some of those murdered by the police here in the UK.

Google them and let it sink in how long this has been going on around us as British people. What meant this wasn't an issue for you before now?
