アサ・アキラさんのインスタグラム写真 - (アサ・アキラInstagram)「When it comes to matters of race in the US, I’ve always felt that being Asian American can be awkward - I am a person of color; I am not, by default, afforded all of the privileges of my white peers. At the same time, the color of my skin does not increase my chances of being mistreated by authority, or being stereotyped as a danger to society - all while decreasing my chances in getting a good education, income, or even basic healthcare. Growing up, I felt “safe” - I’m neither black nor white, and therefor neither sees me as a threat. Of course, there is a ton of baggage that comes with being a child of Asian immigrants in this country; with having yellow skin, with being seen as Less Than - but this post isn’t about that. It’s about supporting black people and their basic human rights. I used to feel that my status as a minority person shielded me from the need to 1) speak out, or 2) better myself. I know better now. Simply existing as a person of color is not support. Non-whiteness is not a pass to stay silent. We must ALL stand with black people, and aggressively so. I have donated to @mnfreedomfund, I am going to use my platform whenever possible to raise awareness, I will call people out when I hear hate or racism, I will raise my son to respect, love, and empower all humans, and I will continue to educate myself on how to be a better ally. ❤️ to everyone.
