We started with our original Portland cafes, Division and Belmont, moved on to our Cobble Hill (Brooklyn), Arts District (LA), and Portland Ace Hotel locations, and as of June 1st, we will also have reopened Downtown Portland, Greenwich Village, New York Ace Hotel, and New Orleans. . . It’s not all good news. Along with our peers across the food and beverage industry, the coronavirus pandemic has hit Stumptown hard and caused us to make previously unimaginable decisions. After taking a hard look at our financial projections and the reality of our current business situation, it has become clear that we will have to permanently close our Capitol Hill (Seattle), Downtown Los Angeles, and Chicago cafes. We are devastated to lose the incredible, hardworking staff members at each of these cafes, and to leave the communities that we have loved being a part of over the years. . We make this choice with heavy hearts, but steady in the knowledge that these painful measures will ensure that we can continue to provide jobs and benefits for the employees that remain, and the same level of high quality coffee and service you’ve come to expect from us, where we are able to continue operating. . We recognize that in the midst of this global tragedy, we are fortunate to be able to keep doing business at all; many others in our industry have been forced to shutter their entire businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, and bars permanently. More will follow. Each one of these losses is an immense blow to a business owner, their staff, and the communities they serve, and has dire ramifications for the network of suppliers that provide raw goods to these businesses. We ask that, if you’re able, you continue supporting the restaurants and cafes that you love in your community, and consider reaching out to your congressional representatives to advocate for direct support for these businesses and the workers, communities, and suppliers that both support and rely on them. .
