このニットは会社で蚊帳ニットと呼ばれていた。去年の今頃佐賀で蚊帳の中で眠った。蚕や網やネット、花壇の虫除けのメッシュとかそういったものに永遠心が惹かれてしまう。蚊帳の中で眠ったのは子供の頃ぶりで、真っ暗な夜外の小さなランプの光が揺れていたのをぼーっと思い出す。朝目が覚めたら眩しいくらいの新緑が薄いメッシュ越しに見えて、こんなニットを作ろうと思った。ニットにチュールを袋状にして編む事は組織差があるからとても繊細で難しいのだけれど職人さんのおかげで形になったよ。色んな小さなものがつぎはぎされていて、見るたびにあの断片的な光景を思い出す。

Cocoon Layered Knit Jacquard Cardigan - green

The series of knitwear is affectionately being called “Kaya knit” among my staff. Last summer in Saga prefecture, I stayed at an inn after long walk in mountains. There, I slept under Kaya (mosquito net). Come to think of it, things like silkworm cocoon or fisherman net has always captured my heart.
It’s been a first since I was a child to sleep under mosquito net. Dimly lit lamp was gently swaying in the dark. I was vaguely looking at it.
In the morning, an avalanche of summer fresh green spread out through Kaya before my eyes. I decided to make a knitwear to materialise the experience.

Due to the difference in intensity, knitting delicate bag-shaped tulle on knit body requires meticulous method and concentration. Yet here we made it thanks to the artisans who helped me to develop the technique. Every time I look at this garment - a patch work of my small memory, I remember the fragmentary scenes I saw through Kaya.
