Aujourd’hui, focus sur Le Bain turc d’Ingres. 🔎 - 🛀 Des dizaines de femmes nues sont assises sur des sofas, dans un intérieur oriental autour d'un bassin. Beaucoup de ces baigneuses juste sorties de l'eau s'étirent ou s'assoupissent. D'autres discutent, prennent du café. Au fond, une femme danse. Au premier plan, une autre joue de la musique avec un tchégour. - ✉️ Cette toile associe les motifs du nu et de l'Orient chers au peintre depuis toujours. Ingres n'est pourtant jamais allé dans l’Est : pour cette toile, il s’inspire des lettres de Lady Montague, ambassadrice anglaise en Turquie, qui raconte une visite d'un bain pour femmes à Istanbul au début du XVIIIe siècle. - 🙈 Le prince Napoléon commanda cette scène de harem à Ingres vers 1848. L'œuvre fut livrée en 1859 mais rendue peu après au peintre... Elle avait choqué l'Impératrice ! Ingres retravailla son tableau jusqu'en 1863, mais son dernier chef-d’œuvre ne fut révélé au public que bien après sa mort, en 1905. - - - - 🌎 Let's inspect the works of the museum with #LouvreDetails! Today, focus on The Turkish Bath, by Ingres. 🔎 - 🛀 Dozens of nude women are sitting on sofas in an Oriental interior which is arranged around a pool. Many of these bathers have just emerged from the water and are stretching themselves or dozing off; others are chatting or drinking coffee. In the background a woman is dancing, while in the foreground another is playing music on a sort of lute. - ✉️ This picture combines two subjects which had been close to Ingres's heart: the nude and the Orient. The painter has never been to the East : to paint this work, he was inspired by the letters of Lady Montague, British ambassador in Turkey, who describes a women's baths in Instanbul in the early 18th century. - 🙈 The Prince Napoleon commissioned this harem scene from Ingres around 1848. The painting was delivered in 1859, but returned soon afterwards... It had shocked the empress!
