I spent 3 and 1/2 years looking through the 6 and 1/2 million plant specimens at the Natural History Muséum’s Herbarium in London, which I then photographed on 10/8. Being in the quiet , gentle and peaceful space of the herbarium was such a joyful place to work . I could look un disturbed for days through 100s of specimens and not find a single flower or plant I liked and then suddenly I’d find one , so beautiful or so eccentric or so surprising that it felt like discovering treasure ! There are plants that look like they were made of silver or like children’s drawings, architectural maps of cities or fireworks. So much variety ! I’m not a religious man but looking at all these astonishing and simply fantastic plants it was hard not to think that whoever made these had so much fun !
