Excited to share episodes 3 and 4 of VELA, live now. 🇰🇮 The islands in these two episodes were amazing in their own ways, and taught us all different lessons. - On Palmyra it was really interesting to see what the Nature Conservancy has done to restore the ecosystem down there. Through their conservation the atoll has basically returned to its original, natural state, the way it was before human influence. The variety and abundance of life was like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It really showed us how we are a part of the ecosystem in the places where we live, not apart from it. Thinking about daily decisions from that point of view has really helped me make better choices and have a smaller footprint here at home. - Then sailing to Washington and Fanning Islands and seeing how the people lived there was a totally different lesson. The local people lived so simply and in the moment, it was inspiring. They grew their own food, caught their own fish, and the villages harnessed all their energy from the sun. Plenty of life lessons for our crew of five, and plenty to be thankful for. To explore these islands by the wind was a dream for all of us.
