We could all use an uplifting story right now. Watching @cripcampfilm , I am reminded of how rare it is to see teenagers with disabilities on the big screen being just that: teenagers. This film captures the complexity and humanity of those living with disabilities, and it honors this incredible community of young people at Camp Jened who grew up to advocate for disability rights in America. Their spirit and resilience reminded me of my father, a joyful man, always quick with a laugh, who struggled with M.S. for much of his life. While his disability didn’t define who he was, it would be foolish to say it didn’t deeply impact him either. Crip Camp honors his story and those of so many others in our country.
