My travels were cut short due to my surf events being postponed as a result of #covid_19 . To be blatantly honest, a week ago I was under the impression that everyone was overreacting and I was getting a kick out of all of the silly toilet paper memes. I didn’t understand how serious this was for the elderly or those with compromised immune systems. I realize now, that kind of thinking is extremely selfish/unfair due to the fact that I am young and healthy. Fast forward to today, a good amount of my family members and friends have either been laid off or are not working. Businesses are struggling worldwide, including one of my favorite local restaurants. There are families worried about their next paycheck and stressing to meet their financial obligations. Whether you are taking this pandemic seriously or not, I want to urge everyone to be cognizant that people are suffering right now. Please take responsibility and practice #socialdistancing for the sake of everyone’s well-being and the unknown economic struggles ahead. It is important to know that you may carry this virus without having any symptoms and by socializing daily you are putting others at risk. Thank you to all of the medical heroes worldwide.
