My grandpa was going to architecture school and then World War II happens and they quickly sent them to internment camps and were there for 2 1/2 years "for their own protection". These photos were taken maybe 6months before that happened. My great great grandpa was the first naturalized Japanese American in California (or at least one of them). He came here for FREEDOM. My Grandpa Robbin learned about plants in the camp. He learned he loved plants. They actually grew things that other people in that area that the camp was in couldn't grow and were able to sell their produce on Sundays so they were able to create some kind of commerce for themselves within the camps. So when things like this happen we persevere and sometimes something better will come out of it. My grandpa ended up coming out of the war and he and his brothers started a landscaping business and then started actually growing the plants at their grandmas house and then started doing all the houses landscapes in Beverly Hills and selling the plants and then ...my grandpa created a huge nursery after that and that was his legacy! Our ancestors lived through many complete upheavals. Mine survived two city flattening earthquakes, Tokyo and San Francisco, the depression, grandpa Robbin's younger brothers wanting to fight for freedom were put in the front lines in WW2 for America, more people died in the 442nd battalion (which was all Japanese AMERICANS) than in any other. Everyone alive has perseverance in their blood somewhere because we are here. Thanks @jeirjo for inspiring this story. Love, diligence, courage, hope, trust, creative thinking and new ways to everyone. We can get through this. There is a lot of support coming through from so many. #ancestralhealing #ancestors #thankyouancestors #perserverance」3月19日 5時15分 - karayoshimotobua
