While we reflect on this achievement that began the age of modern rocketry, we also honor Esther Goddard (1901–1982). Esther and Robert met at Clark University and were married in 1924. Esther documented much of Robert's rocketry research, often photographing and filming launches. Following Robert Goddard's passing in 1945, she was a tireless advocate for his achievements, securing credit for his inventions and preparing his work for publication: Without her, Robert's work might be largely unseen and unknown today.
