Have you ever looked through your closet and realised that in the midst of a whole bunch of clothes you always wear the same 10 things?
This happens to me on a regular basis, and it made me start thinking about favourite pieces- what makes a garment a favourite?
A certain timelessness, an ease, something almost classic, almost mundane that is elevated by an amazing colour, an unexpected detail or just the perfect fit. Something that works in different situations and ways, depending on context and mood, pieces that we form an emotional bond with because they make us feel good about ourselves.
Also, the calming pleasure of slipping into a 2-piece suit, knowing that it needs 2 minutes to be dressed and look good.
So this Collection became about favourite pieces and all of the above.
The 2-piece suit, remade with different shapes and materials:
An oversized baseball jacket in pink taffetas or gold jacquard is worn with matching pants.
A couture ‘Bell’ jacket in a masculine checked wool is matched with ample pants.
A double-breasted Men’s blazer with narrow, gathered shoulders is worn with matching cigarette pants, a jersey T Shirt with a sequinned V-Neck adds a dose of glamour.
The same blazer is worn over a tiered voluminous skirt in checked wool, from the office to the opera .
A small fitted blazer with wide gathered shoulders in worn with oversized masculine pants.
The same pant is cut in sequins and worn under a Peacoat in camel wool or fluid silk dresses.
A fitted popeline shirt has enlarged and draped sleeves and worn over pants or as a dress , an oversized men’s shirt is turned into a tight fitting top.
As always there are the upcycled denim pieces- last season’s trench coat (a personal favourite!) is cut using two different tones of denim. Two denim skirts made out of upcycled pants add a street-vibe to blazers and coats.
In the end this collection became a way of re-looking at the work of the past 6 seasons: re-evaluating and finding my own favourites and those of everybody else, and trying to design clothes that will become tomorrow’s favourites, being worn time and time again.
