With little contrast between the spiraling arms of stars, gas and dust, and less dense areas in between, this spiral galaxy appears as unassuming as a smudged fingerprint on the sky, yet, just as exceptional. “Anemic galaxies” like this one contain only small quantities of the raw materials needed to produce stars. But, despite its subtlety when compared to its brash, spotlight-stealing relatives, it retains an otherworldly charm, standing out gracefully from the surrounding darkness of space.
