They were thought to have been one of the most numerous open- ocean sharks on the planet. Sadly, commercial fishing and the shark fin trade has hammered their numbers throughout their range. Despite how you might feel toward sharks, they play a critical role in ocean ecosystems. Healthy shark populations mean healthy oceans, and healthy oceans mean healthy people. Don’t agree?
