The Japanese island of Yakushima, which is a designated World Natural Heritage Site, floats in the sea but is a rich island where thousand-year-old trees continue to thrive. The wind from the ocean hits the mountain, which causes clouds to rise and rain to fall. The annual rainfall is so high that it is said "it rains 35 days a month". The granite that forms the island does not store soil, but moss that grows thanks to abundant rainfall nurtures the trees. "Rain flows from the mountains to the sea".
