村上隆さんのインスタグラム写真 - (村上隆Instagram)「T-Rex’s @t_rexglobal solo exhibition has opened at our Animanga Zingaro in Nakano Broadway, Tokyo, and I was overcome with some deep emotions. His is an art exhibition but also a show about street fashion. A few evenings ago, on the day of the opening, for the first time in a really long while I encountered a moment of happiness and felt buoyed for a few minutes. Ian Connor @ianconnorsrevenge brought a huge group of friends from LA just to celebrate. We started the dinner with a toast at a Korean barbecue restaurant Rex had picked based on an internet ranking, and once the meat was all gone, someone in the group started playing their favorite hip hop song on their small speaker. The entire group was beyond cool. Cherry @_________cherry_______ my partner in fashion-related endeavors, was there as well, and I turned to him and said how this felt like coming full circle for the two of us. “It does?” he said, looking confused. But to me, this show signified the closing of a circle, a very long story finally becoming whole, in Nakano, the town I chose, no less. It almost brought me to tears. My current standing position in street fashion originated in my involvement with Kanye West and those around him. It was ages ago when Kanye came to visit my studio, asking to seem my sculpture; the said studio was a prefabricated shack, and I greeted him in shabby clothes. He subsequently visited many times, and for one of the visits, he came with Virgil Abloh @virgilabloh , then a freshly graduated assistant, as well as Don C @chicagodonc and Jasper @ibnjasper in tow. The coincident that brought me together with all these people has led me to where I am in the context of street fashion, for instance through ComplexCon @complexcon in the past several years. I think that the group that visited Rex’s show the other day is the street generation that follows.
