The staggering statistic of 1 BILLION native animals lost is hard to believe, however, I recently received a much-needed positive environmental story amidst this destruction and tragedy. I had the opportunity to meet up with my friend @ecology.millie from @mulligansflat sanctuary and spend some time with the endangered Eastern Bettong, also known as the Balbo by the Ngunnawal People. (Also, this cuties name is Balbo!) Mulligans Flat is a sanctuary that protects 1200ha of critically endangered woodland and has been fostering endangered species before the fire and will continue to do so after the fires. This little guy had been extinct from the Australian mainland for 120 years until they were reintroduced and protected at Mulligans. Now that climate change makes these ecological disasters more frequent and devastating, conservation and preservation are an essential and proactive path forward to save our wildlife and environment.
