Work(s) of the week are the etchings in this series by sculptor, ceramicist and print maker Ivor Abrahams (1935-2015), best known for his stylised prints of garden scenes. 🌳 Much of Abrahams’ work focused on garden imagery, exploring the relationship between art, objects and nature. Later in life he moved on to looking at people, sculpture and water-based imagery.
Each print in this series is composed of three elements: a partial figure, a rock, and some sort of vegetation. The use of second-hand source material, like magazines and gardening volumes, and the combining of separate coloured elements, gives much of Abrahams' work a conceptual quality, linking his work to pop art of the 60s. 💥
Ivor Abrahams, Femme du Midi I, II, III, IV, V and VI 1979, available to view by appointment in Tate Britain's Prints & Drawings Room.
