A team of our organics conservators went nearly 12 metres up to complete conservation work on these amazing poles in the Great Court. This kind of job requires a good head for heights, and is carried out once a year after hours. It might take up to four nights to complete the task with two people working together using special brushes and a museum-grade vacuum cleaner.
Carved from red cedar wood in the mid-19th century, these poles were made in British Columbia on the north west coast of Canada.
