Last year I made some big changes: way less travel, way less single-use packaging, supported some great environmental organizations, and bought carbon offsets. This year, I’m making an effort to align myself with brands that are aware of their impact, which might mean a lot less sponsored content on here. These are all small changes, and I stumble a lot, but it’s imperative I continue to try. It’s not only the changes we make in our lives, but the efforts to constantly sustain them.⁣

And it’s bottom-up (the changes I make) as much as it is top-down (the steps federal governments and big business need to take). I can’t say it any better than @spencer.r.scott wrote in his post, which I recommend giving a read (look for the purple sky).⁣

This shot of Momo is a photo I think about often. It was taken in Portugal where the 2017 wildfires consumed forests, homes, and lives. I’m not blind to the fact that to take this photo I had to fly to Europe and drive a diesel camper to get there. I could counter argue that in this time I didn’t have to heat a home, and might have driven as much as someone who commutes daily. But this is where my head starts spinning. Am I doing enough? Am I part of the problem? Yes and yes. But I won’t wallow in it, and I’ll ground myself in the reality that so long as I continue to strive to be climate neutral, and to hold big business accountable for the impact they have, I’m on the desired path. Regardless of what Meat Loaf believes.
