Under more permanent silk flowers, a real bud from the original Sarabande finale dress was preserved and uncovered during restoration.
Florist Phyllida Holbeach had gathered dried and fresh flower research from New Covent Garden Flower Market and travelled from London to finish the dress with Lee Alexander McQueen and the team moments before the show began. “The flowers were real, they couldn’t be put on until about an hour before the show, so it was all incredibly organic and immediate... So there was Lee, and the crinoline, and the florists and the team, who had to dress it by pinning and stitching on the flowers... It was built as Tanya, the model, put it on. Then it became even more built up, with flowers put into the neckline... with very little time to go.”- Sarah Burton.
