Introducing the first of many #SpotlightSunday posts!

I’ve had an idea for a while now, but have found it difficult to find the time and the words to make it happen. As the Chinese proverb goes: “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is now”. So what better way to start the new year than by expressing my gratitude and shining a spotlight on those people, places, things & ideas that have helped shape my sporting career and myself as a sportswoman. I hope that I can ‘pay it forward’ and help others by sharing little insights into my journey as many Sundays as possible in the lead up to #Tokyo2020 and beyond!

This Sunday, I wanted my #SpotlightSunday to be on my experience with mental blocks in trampolining (also known as #LostMoveSyndrome #LMS #TheYips & #SkillConfusion) and what helped. At the height of it (pun intended) my mental blocks in trampolining was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever had to face, yet I wouldn’t take it away from my journey. Going through this time was stressful, emotionally painful, confusing and it made me feel like a failure over and over again. But overcoming it gave me a great insight into how my mind works, improved my basic trampoline techniques (it was during this time that my set routine went from being a weakness, to a strength), gave me confidence that I had the strength to overcome future obstacles and most importantly, I obtained first-hand experience, knowledge and empathy to relate to and help others going through similar situations.

I hope that shining a spotlight on what helped me through my mental blocks can help others overcome them too!
