Today’s post from Faiza, an amazing high school aged student in New York City. “My name is Faiza Azam and I am a Senior at John Dewey High School in Coney Island, New York City. I am à Field Representative at Our Climate. I grew up in New York City, but my childhood was in the country of Bangladesh, a country that faces annual and numerous cyclones, storm surges, earthquakes etc. and no help or support from anyone. We must address these ecological crises and being a young person, I am doing everything I can. In 2019, I helped my school community rehabilitate from damages caused by Hurricane Sandy and marched to protect the Atlantic Ocean from plastic pollution along the Coney Island boardwalk. One of my first actions as a Field Representative with Our Climate was sharing my story with the media at the Global Climate Strike in NYC on September 20th. This outburst of youth climate advocacy is incredible. It was an epic experience, and as a young leader, it is just one of the peaks of my advocacy career so far. I’m looking forward to my next step with Our Climate; to urge our elected officials to price greenhouse gas pollution and invest in a just transition.
