Hans Haacke has long insisted that art and art institutions are never isolated from the realities and injustices of the wider world. With his work "News" (1969/2008)—which consists of a dot matrix printer connected to a live newsfeed of ten global wire services—Haacke quite literally introduces these issues to the gallery in the form of a paper trail that accumulates throughout the duration of the exhibition.
