For most of my 20’s there were things I thought I shouldn’t talk about because it would negatively impact my career. I naively thought that people (myself included) just wanted to hear about the next progression in climbing, something that would neatly fit into the outward “hero’s journey” narrative that is continually praised and celebrated.

But after fifteen plus years of hiding a mountain of emotions with external praise and a newfound role of motherhood, I was exhausted trying to be that person I thought I should be, instead of the person I wanted to be.

There’s a shift happening in the climbing community surrounding many of the topics I was ashamed to talk about (body image issues, success at all costs drive, competitiveness with women, eating disorders, etc.) I’m so thrilled to see @ヘイゼル・フィンドレー and @minaclimbing create a podcast that can house these conversations we all have as humans but are so often left out of our community’s dialogue.

They just released their first episode, which was a conversation that Hazel and I had in her van in the Camp 4 parking lot. It was one of the most refreshing and real interviews I’ve done in my career. I hope you enjoy the chat as much as I did (link in bio). // pic of me finally embracing my postpartum body this past spring in France, instead of covering it up with baggy t-shirts. // #curiousclimberpodcast @outdoorresearch @metoliusclimbing @touchstoneclimbing @bluewaterropes @オスプレー @skinourishment @clifbar @lasportivana #orambassador
