For more than twenty-five years, Liang Shaoji has used live silkworms to spin silk onto different objects in his "Nature Series." These hollow metal chains are covered in the delicate, raw, white silk of silkworms, active participants in the creation of this artwork. Liang himself has said, “I am a silkworm,” underscoring his interest in the interconnectedness between humans, animals, and nature. See this work and more on view in "The Allure of Matter: Material Art from China" before it closes on January 5.
