クリスティナ・バザンさんのインスタグラム写真 - (クリスティナ・バザンInstagram)「A few days ago, I came back from an impactful experience in the heart of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh for the @mdlbeast music festival which is part of the country’s Vision 2030 project to bring art and cultural events to Saudi, engaging the youth and opening new frontiers. What felt to me like a message of openness stroke a backlash. I feel saddened for the understanding and diplomacy I may have lacked in putting this trip into narrative. My work has always brought me to unexpected places with each their own intricate cultural affirmations and beliefs. Although I am not a politician nor can I call myself knowledgeable in cultural affairs, I understand the absolute necessity for us all in educating ourselves on what goes on in the world before taking any decision. I chose to participate with an unbiased eye and no expectations, coming from a mixed cultural background myself. I traveled with a friend and we were greeted with a warm welcome. In this message I wish to place myself on no side but to simply acknowledge my presence and showcase my compassion for those who still might suffer oppressions. As far as global opinion currently fires on the integrity of the cultural message spread by the festival, it did generate dozens of thousands of jobs, creating opportunities for local youth to collaborate on a big scale music festival, which on a human level is very important in regards to the opportunities provided for these communities. We spent 3 days with locals, a group of brilliant artists from all over the globe and were impressed witnessing thousands of people coming together to dance and celebrate diverse music. I had the pleasure of meeting Hoda Abdulrahman Al Helaissi part of the Shura council and exchange with her on hopes for the future, her ideas on how to engage with all communities, supporting women’s rights, diversity, and the power of culture and art in this conversation as a bridge in the still relevant gaps. Due to current circumstances I would like to have your opinion on associations which deserve support and attention as I will be donating proceeds to sectors that can utilize this money for social care and improvement.
