Ravel wrote La Valse about 100 years ago (1919-1920) as a tribute to Viennese Waltz or even to Vienna (the first European city that I visited in my life!), and this year is the 150th anniversary of the Austro-Japanese friendship! I chose the cover painting by searching on Internet, but it turns out that the author Leonid Afremov just passed away in August this year, and one of his important themes was shimmering water (you can see his beautiful paintings on his website afremov.com ).
