The piece entitled 'Hill' by artist Andrea Büttner features in the new LOEWE store on Greene Street in New York's SoHo neighbourhood.
We sat down with Büttner to discuss the piece and her work more generally, having been featured at the @LOEWEFoundation #ChanceEncounters exhibition curated by @Jonathan.Anderson in 2018 as part of Art Basel Miami Beach.
Previously nominated for the Turner Prize, Büttner presented a series of large-scale woodcut prints at the Chance Encounters exhibition, depicting recurring motifs in her work. Often honing in on the humble, or the overlooked, the artist has engaged with notions of humility, shame, religious belief or custom to explore contemporary society and her own role as an artist within it. Büttner is interested in the woodcut technique for the way it brings together the handcrafted with mass-production.
