P u r p o s e

I strive to be honest with you guys, but still social media can illustrate this polished image that just isn’t always the reality. We all have our little or big demons we wrestle with, and sometimes there isn’t really an explanation for why we feel up or down. Some mornings, I go to bed, so excited to wake up and live out my next day. And then some mornings, I just wake up and don’t feel like I want to do much at all. To me, that is normal, it’s life.

Last night I presented an award about Purpose. It was an incredible evening, and it left me feeling really uplifted and positive about our community. My heart feels full of gratitude for everyone that came to be a part of @roam
Frankly, my mental state has felt a little turbulent lately. I have a lot to be thankful for, and I recognize that.

My career ebs and flows, and I like to center my focus on one or two main expeditions each year, and work around preparing for these with smaller outdoor trips and training in the gym. During the interim periods, when I’m not on some trip that brings a lot of value to my heart and gives me a sense of purpose, I can feel a bit directionless. Scrolling social media, it’s like it invokes this sense of “fomo,” or comparison that I know isn’t healthy, but it’s hard to always omit. The sense of “deserving” or being “good enough,” can be tricky to realize.

I’m going on a climbing trip now to just hang out and enjoy time with friends. As a professional climber, maybe that sounds like an obvious thing to do, but in the career path I have chosen, having no production is not always a given. I feel really grateful for the opportunities in my career, and I work my hardest because of this. Traditionally, my approach is different from some “core.” That can disagree with people. But each of our paths are unique and the only compass that we can each follow is our own. •
See you in a little bit <3
